                  USE OF UNIVERSITY MAILING LISTS
   
   I.   REFERENCES:
   
        A.   President Hitch's memorandum to Chancellors, March 4, 1969.
        
        B.   Vice President Bannerman's memorandum to Chancellors,
             Administrative Officers, Office of the President. dated March
             26, 1969.
        
        C.   Chancellor Cheadle's memorandum to Vice Chancellor Varley,
             dated April 9, 1969.
   
   II.  POLICY:
   
        University-owned mailing lists in any form may not be used by,
        released for use by, rented, or sold to persons or organizations for
        purposes unrelated to functions of the University of California. In
        addition, the use of any list for fund-raising purposes must be
        approved by Institutional Advancement.
        
        Individual printed copies of campus and student directories may
        continue to be distributed and sold. "Mailing lists" is defined as
        any compilation of names and addresses other than campus
        directories. "University-owned" shall not include such lists as the
        memberships of The Affiliates, the Alumni Association, or Allied
        Arts of Santa Barbara.
