              LIABILITY FOR INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
                     FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
   
   I.   REFERENCES:
   
        A.   UCSB Policies Manual, Policy 1205, Use of Instructional
             Development Equipment, Facilities, and Services.
   
   II.  POLICY:
   
        A.   Cancellation of Facilities and Equipment, Non-Instructional
             Users:
   
             The requesting department will be liable for all charges for
             equipment, supplies, and labor involved in preparation,
             rehearsal, performance, and clean-up when a production or
             presentation is canceled. Charges for materials, including
             videocassettes and films, and charges for personnel will be
             made at current recharge rates.
   
        B.   Cancellations of Facilities and Equipment, Instructional Users:
   
             When instructional users, as listed in the Schedule of Classes,
             cancel films, videocassettes, equipment and personnel, the
             cancellation will be reviewed by the Dean of Instructional
             Development to determine payment of rental costs.
   
        C.   Replacement of Stolen or Damaged Equipment:
   
             Equipment which has been loaned will be the responsibility of
             the borrower from the time it is checked out from Instructional
             Development to the time it is checked in at the issuing office.
             Equipment delivered to a location on campus will be the
             responsibility of the borrower until picked up by an
             Instructional Development Operator at a time specified in
             advance.  When loss or theft or damage occurs, the borrower
             shall be liable to:
   
             1.   Provide funds which will be used to purchase new
                  replacement piece(s) or equipment, at the full purchase
                  price to the University.
             2.   Replace the stolen or lost equipment with comparable
                  unit(s) as a direct exchange. Such exchanged equipment
                  shall be within the time of usable life remaining and
                  shall be in completely repaired and operating condition at
                  the time of acceptance, which acceptance shall be at the
                  convenience and satisfaction of Instructional Development.
             
             3.   Provide sufficient funds to pay for repair by
                  Instructional Development of any damaged portion of the
                  equipment.
   
        D.   Security of Facilities:
   
             To assure proper maintenance and security for Instructional
             Development equipment and facilities located throughout campus,
             Instructional Development personnel shall authorize the
             operation and distribution of such equipment and facilities
             exclusively.
   
        E.   Projection Booths:
   
             For security reasons, projection booths are the responsibility
             of Instructional Development. Access is restricted to
             Instructional Development personnel only.
