ASSIGNMENT OF LIBRARY FACULTY STUDIES
I. REFERENCES:
Minutes of Meeting, Faculty Legislature, May 22, 1980.
II. POLICY:
The Library assigns faculty studies for library-centered research
projects to qualified teaching faculty on a first come basis. The
initial assignment is for one quarter with the possibility of three
successive renewals. In order to assure equitable opportunity for
assignment of faculty studies to all eligible persons, the following
principles must be considered:
A. Purpose: Library studies are assigned for research needs and
are not to be used as offices or conference/meeting sites.
B. Eligibility: Only faculty members are eligible for assignment.
The study is solely for the use of the assigned faculty
member(s) and may not be secondarily reassigned to ineligible
persons.
C. Reassignment: Upon reapplication each quarter, supported by
evidence of sustained usage and continuing need, the Library
may reassign a study for not more than three successive
quarters, including Summer Quarter.
D. Leaves of Absence: A faculty member on leave during an
assignment may continue to occupy the study if he or she
remains in the area; faculty on leave to other universities or
who have gone abroad relinquish their studies for the duration
of their absence.
E. Waiting List: When there is a waiting list, the person who has
been assigned the study the longest will be asked to vacate.
The person vacating may reapply for the next available study by
placing his/her name on the waiting list.
F. Appeal to the Senate Library Committee: Persons asked to
relinquish studies may appeal to the Senate Library Committee
for an extension; however, the Library Administration will make
the final decision.
G. Location of Assigned Studies: Insofar as possible, the Library
assigns studies convenient to the library materials being used
by the faculty member, or in accordance with the wishes of the
faculty member.
H. Sharing of Studies: Two persons may be assigned to the same
study by mutual agreement.
I. Removal of Uncharged Library Materials: Periodically, Library
staff will check each study and materials not charged out will
be returned to Library shelves.
J. Food and Drink: Prohibition of food and drink in the Library
facility also applies to faculty studies.
K. Responsibility: Occupants are responsible for the security of
Library materials held in the study and for the keys. The
Library assumes no responsibility for personal property in
faculty studies.
